About Us
Silence was founded not based on “pity”. Rather, it was felt that differently able persons, the hearing and speech impaired, the blind, the physiologically impaired, or with mental disabilities, must have socioeconomic rehabilitation, recuperation, and of course become equally able to present themselves in the mainstream of society. With this dream and steadfast ambition, Silence was founded on 11 April 1979. The name “Silence” implies that the organization began and still holds a majority of artisans and other staff who are hearing and speech impaired, as they are never able to speak or hear. Silence not only works for the economically disadvantaged producers (in-house artisans) but very consciously takes special care of the beneficiary artisans because they are physically challenged which actually separates them from the rest of the society. Silence accepts these sort of youngsters and trains them up in special skills for further employment. In Silence they receive unconditional acceptance from the producing staff as well as the teachers and official staff who are well aware of “inclusion”. Silence is a single-unit Fair Trade Producer-Organization. Silence does not have any supplier or producer groups. Silence owns a workshop where all differently-able artisans produce handicraft products like Decorative Candles, Leather items, Wooden Items, Jute & Cotton products, Greeting Cards, Costume Jewelry, Paper Mache & Novelties, etc. Silence conforms to all principles of Fair Trade and is a Guaranteed Member of the World Fair Trade Organization (WFTO)

Mission Statement

Mission of Silence is socioeconomic rehabilitation and recuperation of multiple physically challenged persons as well as mentally challenged persons and to bring these people into mainstream of life and live and enjoy a proper livelihood. Mission of Silence is to eradicate “unfair trade” that actually deprives the producers of the profit they deserve.
