Nepali members of WFTO affected, Families of producers need help
Nepal suffered after a devastating 7.8 magnitude earthquake struck near the capital city of Kathmandu on 25 April. As of this writing, more than 5,500 people were killed, 8,000 injured, and billions of properties destroyed to rubbles.
WFTO members and their producers were badly affected. Many of them were preparing for orders for Christmas holiday and Autumn/Winter season.
As Shared Interest Society celebrates its 25th anniversary this year, we look back on what the organisation has achieved in that time…
Shared Interest was launched in 1990 and attracted £750,000 in share capital and 600 members in the first year alone.

The World Fair Trade Organization celebrates the World Fair Trade Day on 9 May 2015 with Agents for Change worldwide! Everyone who is making a difference, supports change and is interested in becoming an Agent for Change is welcome to participate in our celebration. In fact, we want you to be part of our change-making mission.
The 13th Biennial Conference of WFTO in Milan is packed with interesting workshop topics and exciting speakers, all the more reason to come to Milan in May to celebrate the World Fair Trade Week.
WFTO is very happy to welcome three new Guaranteed members. FairMail (The Netherlands), Trade Aid Importers (New Zealand), and Kiboko Leisure Wear (Kenya) have successfully completed the WFTO Guarantee System process. The total number of guaranteed members is now at 18, and the number is projected to double by May this year. Since its implementation in 2013 more and more WFTO members are now gradually transitioning to Guaranteed Fair Trade Organisation status through the WFTO Guarantee System (GS) process.
G wie… Geburtstagsgrüße! WFTO congratulates GEPA on its 40th birthday. WFTO President Rudi Dalvai extends warm wishes to GEPA on its anniversary in May. "On behalf of WFTO, I wish you and your team a lot of dynamism, enthusiasm and creativity to continue your excellent work that you have been doing in the last 40 years, which is giving support to marginalised producers, and contributing to your own country."
WFTO Asia recently conducted six successful Guarantee System workshops. WFTO Asia Executive Director Christine Gent and Sustainability Coordinator Elise Hawley toured in India, from 24 February to 7 March, to give GS workshops. Two GS workshops were also held in Bangladesh on 9 and 12March.
