The Body Shop - Plastics for change - FAIRLY TRADED RECYCLED PLASTIC

The Body Shop launches fairly traded recycled plastic: a new frontier for people and the planet

The Body Shop has launched its first Community Trade Recycled Plastic from Bengaluru, India, in partnership with WFTO guaranteed member Plastics for Change.  The initiative highlights the lesser-known, human side of the plastic crisis.

The Body Shop aims to fight more than plastic pollution – it wants to drive social change and help empower people at the same time.

To mark this launch, the company has unveiled a giant artwork of a female Indian waste picker in London’s Borough Market.  Using recycled plastic from waste pickers in Bengaluru, the artwork is on public display on 10 – 11 May.

“We are delighted that The Body Shop is launching this innovative initiative as part of World Fair Trade Day.  The programme highlights the human side of the plastics crisis that we hear very little about. The role of fair trade enterprises will be critical in putting both people and planet first. The Body Shop has always been a pioneer when it comes to Fair Trade and we are proud to see their partner Plastics For Change become a fully verified WFTO member, using plastic recycling to transform lives.” Erinch Sahan, Chief Executive of World Fair Trade Organization
