About Us
SilaiWali is a Fair Trade social enterprise founded in 2018 with the aim of creating dignified livelihoods for forcibly displaced women and marginalised artisan communities, while advancing environmentally responsible production. Based in India, SilaiWali works primarily with Afghan refugee women and persons from the displaced Zo tribe from Manipur, India, in New Delhi, providing skills training, regular production work, and access to global markets.
All SilaiWali products are handcrafted exclusively from waste and surplus textiles sourced from the garment industry, transforming discarded material into decorative objects, accessories, and home décor. This circular production model reduces environmental impact while generating stable, fair-paid employment.
SilaiWali is a long-standing Local Social Enterprise partner of UNHCR’s Made51 initiative and collaborates with international brands, museums, and concept stores. Its products are sold in 135 cities worldwide.
SilaiWali is a Guaranteed Fair Trade Enterprise of the World Fair Trade Organisation (WFTO) and a certified Upcycled Textile Manufacturer recognised by the Ministry of Textiles, Government of India. The organisation is committed to transparency, gender equity, ethical trade, and long-term artisan empowerment.
Mission Statement
SilaiWali’s mission is to create dignified, fair-paid livelihoods for forcibly displaced women and marginalised artisan communities by integrating them into ethical, transparent, and sustainable value chains. We uphold fair payment, safe working conditions, and long-term income security, recognising artisans as skilled producers and equal stakeholders in the enterprise.
Rooted in gender equity and non-discrimination, SilaiWali prioritises women’s economic empowerment through continuous skill development, capacity building, and access to global markets. We work in close partnership with artisan communities to strengthen self-reliance, cultural heritage, and community resilience.
Guided by a strong commitment to environmental responsibility, all SilaiWali products are made exclusively from waste and surplus textiles, advancing circular production and reducing environmental impact. Through ethical storytelling and responsible market practices, we promote transparency, accountability, and respect across our supply chains.
As a Guaranteed Fair Trade Enterprise of the World Fair Trade Organization (WFTO), SilaiWali is committed to upholding and advancing all 10 WFTO Principles in practice.
