FAIR TRADE TOWN IN FOCUS Český Krumlov (CR, Europe)
On September 26, 2012, the town of Český Krumlov became the fourth Fair Trade town in the Czech Republic. The country counts now 13 Fair Trade Towns, but Český Krumlov, according to the local Deputy Mayor Jitka Zikmundovám, “...has always been an open and cosmopolitan city as such” and for this reason, they felt the need “to join the defence of the interests of people who are disadvantaged in developing countries. We want to be a fair and beautiful city and we believe that our support of Fair Trade will contribute to this”. The city has since then been active with many awareness raising activities, and its steering committee has played an active part in events such as the Fairtrade Breakfast and Tree Exhibition.
