This month we are traveling to Italy to meet Equo Garantito, the Italian Fair Trade Network. Equo Garantito was founded 20 years ago to lead the 80 Fair Trade organisation members across Italy in following the Fair Trade criteria, and to give voice for the Italian Fair Trade movement. The members of Equo Garantito have more than 200 Fair Trade shops throughout the country. The network promotes Fair Trade by offering training to entrepreneurs, local authorities, students, teachers and citizens interested in Fair Trade.

On 22nd February 2022, the Fair Trade Advocacy Office and Traidcraft Exchange hosted a panel discussion on “Regulating Purchasing Practices: Strategies for Tackling Unfair Trading Practices in the garment sector” in the framework of the OECD Forum on “Due diligence I the garment and footwear sector”. Main speakers included: Do Quynh Chi from Research Center for Employment Relations (ERC), Professor M. Azizul Islam from the University of Aberdeen and Elspeth Hathaway from industriAll.During the session, speakers explored policy options to regulate purchasing practices in the garment sector and what could be learned from the EU rules against Unfair Trading Practices in agri-food supply chains. They examined the barriers for manufacturers to challenge these unfair trading practices and debated about the key features of the solutions to the issue.
